Viewing TiVo HD Content on a PC

A lot of people have been having problems viewing HD content transferred from a TiVo HD to a PC when using Windows Media Player.  I have found a combination that seems to work.

Setup

1. Install TiVo Desktop (free version).

2. Install AC3Filter to get a good free MPEG codec.

3. Install DirectShow Dump.

4. Install Media Player Classic.

Use

1. Use TiVo Desktop to transfer TiVo content to your PC.

2. Use DirectShow Dump to convert the .tivo file to a .mpg file.

3. Open the .mpg file using Media Player Classic.  It should be smart enough to use the codec from AC3filter by default.
